Travel, Currency and Money saving tips for Seychelles
Though remote, the Seychelles attract visitors who come for the ultimate romantic escape. After all, there are few places more isolated than this heavenly cluster of islands. To many, the Seychelles is the image of what paradise looks like. Of course, there's more to the Seychelles than pristine beaches. In addition to stunning natural beauty and wildlife, the main island of Mahé, where the capital Victoria is located, boasts beautiful French and British colonial architecture. And of course on a set of beautiful islands such as these there is incredible seafood and incredible resorts.
This is not a budget destination whatsoever. Seychelles is a country that generally caters to honeymooners, celebrities, and high-end tourists. There are few ways to save money on the island but, for the most part, you're going to find this a place hard on your wallet. That being said, paradise is worth the price! But don't worry, if you're not a Hollywood A-lister, there is still a place for you. The Seychelles are not a cheap destination but there are plenty of smaller guest houses and loads of people take the bus to get around the island, which is a total bargain.
What language is spoken in the Seychelles?
The official languages of Seychelles are English and French, while the “Seselwa Creole” is the native language. Road signs are mostly in English, but the names of the villages and beaches are in French.
What currency is accepted in the Seychelles?
The Seychelles Rupee is the currency of the country, one euro is worth about 15 rupees Seychelles. The Euro is the most widely-accepted foreign currency, and you will see prices listed in both Euros and sometimes in US dollars. Also, you can bargain down prices if you use euros in certain places, like small hotels. The United States Dollar is also acceptable, but not as favoured as the Euro.
There are also ATMs easily found on the three main islands and airport, but do warn your bank in advance in case they block the card from being used for security. Perhaps take a little cash and your cards for just to be sure.
How to get around in the Seychelles?
Several options are available for the traveler to move throughout Seychelles. Mahé is the only international airport in the Seychelles and on arrival you can have recourse to one of the many taxis on site or public transport. Bus services are the main kind of public transport in the Seychelles. A good solution if you're spending a bit of time on Mahé and Praslin is to rent a car for your holiday. Cheaper, fast and free, you can enjoy your holiday at your own pace.
The port of Mahé, several times a day shuttle boats connects the islands of the Seychelles. To go to Praslin, you can also make the trip by helicopter or by boat via Praslin. Prices remain quite affordable and the trip really worth the cost.
