The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) remains steady against the US dollar, trading close to its 3-month average at 0.006551. Over recent weeks, the exchange rate has stayed within a narrow 3.1% range, between 0.006456 and 0.006657, reflecting limited volatility.

This stability follows Nepal’s growing foreign exchange reserves, which reached NPR 3.2 trillion in December 2025. The reserves are bolstered by high remittance inflows, even as domestic investment remains sluggish. Additionally, the lifting of Nepal’s ban on high-denomination Indian currency notes in December 2025 has eased cross-border transactions, supporting currency stability.

However, political uncertainty persists. Widespread protests and the resignation of the Prime Minister earlier this year contribute to cautious market sentiment. Meanwhile, the Nepalese Rupee has also experienced slight dips against the Indian Rupee, with the INR at a 30-day low near 0.6230, just below its recent average.

Overall, the NPR maintains its position within a stable range, with no major shocks expected in the near term, despite ongoing political and economic developments. The focus remains on regional stability and remittance flows as key factors influencing the currency.
