When Does the Forex Market Open?
The global foreign exchange market normally trades around the clock from Sunday afternoon until Friday afternoon in New York. It is not one central exchange with a single opening bell. Banks, brokers and other participants hand activity from one financial centre to the next as the business day moves around the world.
Retail broker schedules are not identical. A common weekly window is approximately 5pm Sunday to 5pm Friday in New York, sometimes with a short daily maintenance break. Public holidays, the currency pair and the trading platform can alter availability, so the broker's own schedule remains controlling.
