American Express fees and conversion
- Check the Card Member Agreement for the exact foreign transaction fee.
- No-foreign-fee card marketing applies only to the named product.
- The converted amount can still differ from a mid-market calculation.
- ATM use can add cash-advance, interest, foreign-transaction and operator charges.
- Choose local currency at a merchant or ATM unless you intentionally accept its conversion offer.
American Express does not publish one markup or fee that applies to every card and issuing country.

Important American Express qualifications
American Express Global Pay closed on 11 April 2026, and FX International Payments has been discontinued outside the US. Legacy descriptions of those services should not be treated as current transfer offers.
Card authorisation may appear quickly, but final posting and conversion can occur later. Refunds may use a different processing-date rate. Contact Amex through the account or the number on the card for product-specific pricing.
