Contactless works widely—and most Translink journeys cost 50 cents
Brisbane is card-friendly across the CBD, South Bank, Fortitude Valley and major attractions. Contactless bank cards and mobile wallets also work across South East Queensland trains, buses, ferries and trams.
Use a low-fee contactless card for spending and Translink, carry a separate backup and withdraw only modest cash. Tap on and off with the same physical card or device. Airtrain is the important airport exception to Queensland's 50-cent fare.

Airtrain is convenient, but it is not a 50-cent journey
Airtrain links Brisbane Airport with the CBD and the Gold Coast. Its fares are separate from the flat Translink fare, so compare an advance ticket with taxi or rideshare for your group and destination.
Price Airtrain first
Check the current online fare and any family or advance-purchase offer before arrival.Compare groups door to door
For several travellers, compare total rail tickets plus the final connection with a live taxi or rideshare quote.Skip unplanned airport exchange
Use a card or ATM for immediate needs; pre-order foreign cash online when departing.Current Queensland fare
Translink journeys are 50 cents across SEQ
The flat fare applies to Translink buses, trains, ferries and trams, including CityCats, but excludes Airtrain.
Tap correctly
Avoid a default fare
- Use the same card or device when tapping on and off and through transfers.
- One traveller per payment method: a phone and its physical card count separately.
- Remember ferries: CityCat travel also requires a valid tap.
- Do not expect cash on board: the SEQ network is cashless, though fare machines and retailers can accept cash for go card top-ups.
