Contactless now works across Transperth
Perth is card-friendly from the CBD and Northbridge to Fremantle and major attractions. Visa and Mastercard contactless payments are accepted across Transperth, making a separate SmartRider optional for many short-stay adult visitors.
Use a low-fee Visa or Mastercard for purchases and public transport, tapping on and off with the same card or device. A SmartRider can still provide a lower fare for eligible users, while cash is best kept as a modest backup.

Match the Airport Line station to your terminal
Airport Central connects directly to T1/T2 via the Skybridge and is about 18 minutes from Perth Station. T3/T4 passengers use Redcliffe Station and the connecting Route 292 shuttle.

Avoid payment mistakes
Keep one payment identity
- Physical card and phone are different: use one for the entire journey.
- Contactless is full adult fare: concession pricing requires the appropriate SmartRider.
- CAT buses: central CAT services are free and need no tag.
- Dynamic currency conversion: at ATMs, select AUD unless you intentionally accept the displayed home-currency conversion.
